Patient Information Risks
Risk of Infection
The minimum of 6 months of quarantine storage rules out the transmission of infectious diseases, particularly the AIDS virus.
Risk of Multiple Pregnancy
The higher rate of twins (in some cases even triplets) often associated with artificial insemination is only a consequence of the hormone stimulation usually performed with some procedures. For example, test tube fertilisation often involves implanting two to three embryos in the womb.
Only inducing ovulation merely permits the timing of ovulation to be fixed and has no effect on the number of follicles or eggs.
Risk of Deformities
The risk of deformities following donor insemination is just as high as with homologous fertilisation, whether by artificial insemination or natural conception.
Cryopreservation has no effects of any kind on the chromosomes or genes in the sperm.
